I know I know. cobwebs are forming here.
Just that i have been glued to drama series online and had little inspiration on what to write.
On wed, Hub and I visited his buddy's family at their new place. They have bought a 2nd hand apartment that is within 1km of radius of the school they hope to enroll their children in a few years time. Frankly, I like that place. Not becos of its proximity to the school, but instead its environment. They have bought an apartment on the ground floor. The living room opens up to a patio, then bushes and a pathway and the opposite block. Most for the occupants are foreigners, and you see children running along the pathway unsupervised. Freedom, Carefree, and lots of places to roam.
Unlike us who are living in HDB flats, we open and close the door the moment we reached home. The only sound of children is from the playground downstairs. You hardly know your neighbors, even though you stay on the same floor. The only time you may see each other is when you are in the lift together, or when watering the plants along your corridor. But for us to own a place there, it is not possible with my low income. And to have spare cash vs loans to pay every month. I choose to stay in my HDB flat with money in my bank.
Well, luckily for me. I came from a 'branded' primary school, and when the time comes, i will a matter less to worry for. Thru facebook rcently, I found out from my primary schoolmates that we have to join the school alumni so that our future kids will stand a better chance of getting into our primary school. By doing so, we get upgraded 1 phrase. And a check shows that the membership for my pri alumni is $1000~~! what the!!! On the brighter side, its $1k vs a aprox $1mil property that is within the area (and that doesn't mean that you are guaranteed a spot in the school).
So curious me asked my mother. How on earth did i get into the school, when we dont even stay nearby? Mum told me that I was really lucky that year, cos the government was promoting family expansion. Mothers who can prove that they were at least 3 mths pregnant at the time of enrollment for their elder child, gets upgraded 1 phrase. And that's how i got in!
Call me crazy, but at times i wonder. In the future, Do i really want my kid in my former primary school? Or should i take the risk and enroll them in the primary school that is just across the road from where we stay. Problem is that the school across the road is a good school too and its pretty hard to get in. Hub's friend thinks that i mad, for they are doing everything hoping to get their child to get into my primary school, while i am here having 2nd thoughts on it....
